Abortions are a Needed Heath Care Treatment
This graph illustrates the total number of abortions annually by Arizona residents ages 15-44. The annual totals provide insights regarding the importance of abortion procedures for residents; over the past three years, this number has continued to increase until 2022. In June of that year, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and its 50-year model of protective reproductive rights. The large drop in abortions is not a trend and is further attributed to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a decision that has ushered in new strict legislation letting individual states implement abortion regulations, many of which have bared critical health care for many residents across the U.S. The 2023 Annual Abortion Report data has yet to be released but will show a significant decrease in abortions due to Arizona’s strict laws.
Arizona Voter Trends
Within Arizona, there has been a continued increase in the number of registered voters and voter turnout (ballots cast) within the past 10 years. With each new election year, more people are eligible to register and they seem to be doing so, with the highest number of registered voters being in 2018, 2020, and 2022. The most Arizona ballots proportionally that made it into the box, were in 2004, 2008, and 2020 with 70% to 80% voter turnout. However, there was a drop in the last election in 2022 with about a 17% decrease in ballots cast and a slightly lower voter registration than the prior election year.
