This graph illustrates the total number of abortions annually by Arizona residents ages 15-44. The annual totals provide insights regarding the importance of abortion procedures for residents. Over the past three years, the number of procedures done for Arizona residents continued to increase until 2022. This trend indicates that the procedure is one utilized by many residents and is an integral element of reproductive healthcare. In June of that year, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and its 50-year model of protective reproductive rights regulations. The large drop in abortions is not simply a trend in new decision-making, but is further attributed to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. This, a decision that has ushered in new strict legislation, lets individual states implement abortion regulations as they deem fit. Many of these have been extreme, barring critical healthcare for many residents across the U.S. The 2023 Annual Abortion Report data has yet to be released but is guaranteed to show a significant drop in abortions due to Arizona’s strict laws such as the 1864 near-total ban implemented in late April 2024.
